A recent survey carried out by PR firm Burson-Marsteller has revealed that 79% of Fortune 500 companies have integrated social media into their marketing strategy. The preferred mediums of choice are Twitter, Facebook, YouTube or corporate blogs to communicate with customers and other stakeholders.

We don’t need to tell you that social media has taken hold of the net and isn’t about to let go, that’s old news. What we do need to tell you is that social media holds the key to new bookings perhaps more than you think.
Here are our top 10 ideas for embracing social media as a hotel:
1 – The twitter concierge service. Set up a twitter page and encourage visitors to your website (through a link) to ask questions and get immediate responses through twitter. Hyatt have done this very successfully.
2 – Share your positive reviews. Post your positive reviews to your blog and set up a twitterfeed so as you also automatically disperse them through twitter and Facebook.

Incredible eh! Believe it or not, in 2007 there was just 6 hours of video added to YouTube every minute, the figure obviously tripling to today’s numbers. Even in January 2009 there was 15 hours added every minute… so what’s going on, why the increase?
Partly because many firms are waking up to the power of social media, especially when it comes to using video as a promotional aid. But I have to add that there is still a lot of dross on there… pointless rubbish that is probably going to achieve nothing more than a negative reaction to that brand – that’s if it’s found at all!

In almost every meeting we attend at the moment there’s a marketing director or business owner that is still completely miffed by Twitter - ‘what’s all the fuss is about’ is a very common question. In fairness to them, it’s as if non-tech folk don’t already have enough to get their heads round!!
According to recent research, there are approximately 6,000 new businesses signing up to Twitter every day at the moment, many of whom are simply following the crowd and don’t have a clue why they are indeed telling the world what they had for breakfast or what the weather is like in darkest Wiltshire (for example). With the sheer amount of businesses and individuals arriving on Twitter, there’s a fantastic opportunity to raise your profile and brand awareness and build some loyalty . We recently picked up this piece of news from Matt Williams from Brand Republic and wanted to share it with you. What we found most interesting was that the age of the social media user is getting older and well on the increase. This surely makes for a stronger case for services such as Online PR and blogging for your business.
LONDON - The social networks and blogs category has become the fourth most popular online, according to a new report by Nielsen.
The report, called Global Faces And Networked Places, has revealed that such sites are now visited by more than two-thirds of the global online population, accounting for almost 10 per cent of all time spent on the internet.
