How To Tweet For Success!

Bookmark and Share

In almost every meeting we attend at the moment there’s a marketing director or business owner that is still completely miffed by Twitter - ‘what’s all the fuss is about’ is a very common question. In fairness to them, it’s as if non-tech folk don’t already have enough to get their heads round!!

According to recent research, there are approximately 6,000 new businesses signing up to Twitter every day at the moment, many of whom are simply following the crowd and don’t have a clue why they are indeed telling the world what they had for breakfast or what the weather is like in darkest Wiltshire (for example). With the sheer amount of businesses and individuals arriving on Twitter, there’s a fantastic opportunity to raise your profile and brand awareness and build some loyalty . Simple eh ;->... well, after reading our guide to Tweeting below hopefully it will be more so.

So, here’s our quick fire guide to how to get the most from your Tweets:

Plan your tweets
Just because there’s hundreds of tweets flying at you every second doesn’t mean you have to keep up!. Take your time and think about what you really want to get across to followers. Twitter is a fantastic Thought Leadership tool. Whatever your business, think carefully about what are the likely topics to draw attention and lead with them. It’s more about quality rather than quantity. A very good idea is to first establish your most effective short, mid and long tail keywords with the intention of integrating them into your tweets.

It’s all about the headline
Many Twitter users are wired in to specific keywords and receive alerts when certain topics are being discussed. Therefore if you want to start making your mark in your industry you need to use a selection of your top 20 or so keywords at different times.  Try to differentiate your title and encourage remark – ask a question or raise a debatable topic for example.

Don’t abbreviate or misspell
Tempting as it may be and with only 140 characters to play with its criminal to abbreviate too heavily or indeed spell things wrongly. With hundreds of tweets a second you are very unlikely to impress and build that loyal following if you come across amateur.

Don’t forget the Link
Remember to insert your website link into your tweets every now and again. Once you have built up a loyal following it’s a case of allowing them to appreciate the value you bring to your industry and tempting hen to go find out some more about you.

Track conversations
By far the best tools for tracking Tweets and Retweets is TweetDeck. It’s free to download and will allow you to set up alerts based on specific keywords and phrases.
