Promote something interesting – ‘The most expensive seafood hamper’ perhaps?

It’s a complete mystery to me why some PRs still promote the same old products without any particular story behind it, bloggers typically don’t have the time or inclination to promote ‘The Latest Hair Straightners’ for example… think a little deeper before you waste hours pushing this story up a very steep hill.
This is a great example where printed and online media differs dramatically. Paid journalists have quotas to meet to fill pages – bloggers don’t necessarily have this sort of pressure to adhere to… it’s what they want when they want – nobody pays them directly (well maybe Google for advertising).
Therefore ‘relevant spin’ has never been important. This goes well beyond the grounds of straightforward round robin emails promoting products and focuses more on enhancing the title of the release and first 20 words of your email to bloggers… this is after all the most important aspect in terms of SEO and retaining the blogger’s attention.
Say something different for a change, make something more of those hair straightners – what is the biggest USP and how can you make this more engaging. What I’m saying is relevant, creative writing is possibly the most important aspect to your levels of success when talking to bloggers. I’m talking about making more of the product – shock the world!!!
You’ll also find that with creativity comes greater breadth of target niche sites. Those ‘cordless, jewel encrusted hair straightners’ are now suitable for luxury, fashion, style, lifestyle and gadget blogs – not just fashion.
An example is a project we have just become involved in, which we conceptualised for the client from the outset. The Most Expensive seafood hamper by The Fish Society is our latest project and a great example of how to generate greater coverage, suitable to a wider global audience through a little creative thinking. We’re not simply promoting a new seafood hamper… this is the World’s most expensive at £2,500 with 17 types of fish in it – that’s gotta be more appealing to bloggers than a £150 seafood hamper that is fighting for publicity amongst all the noise out there.
