Ways to promote my company blog

Bookmark and Share

If your company has decided to make the move into the world of social media marketing then you’re in the minority and likely to out-compete your competitors who haven’t.

If you are in this minority then hopefully you’ve researched or better still, implemented a corporate blog either as a sub domain, on a separate domain or within your own spoofy content management system.

Here are 3 easy to follow essential tips for promoting your corporate blog:

Make your articles work harder

Twitterfeed - Start by adding your blogs RSS feed to Twitterfeed. This will allow you to automatically ‘tweet’ your blog article titles to your twitter and Facebook followers. There’s no cost to this and you’ll find you collect loads more ‘followers’ who are looking for content around what you are publishing.

Pro-active promotion – Set yourself a target of promoting at least one article every week or fortnight to other relevant blogs and websites in your space. Identify 20 or so relevant sites and simply email them with a brief synopsis and link, telling them why you feel it’s relevant and worth featuring on their site.

Keyword optimised titles – If you want to get found on the search engines then you need to integrate keywords and phrases into your titles and within your main article body copy. A great free tool to use to identify suitable phrases is Google’s keyword tool.

Make influential friends

Spend a few hours searching for relevant blogs and sites in your space then add them to a database. Once you have 20 or so, email them, introduce yourself and ask whether you can write any bespoke articles for them. Bloggers tend to be very limited on time and often welcome content that adds value to their readers. You’ll not only gain a valuable link back to your blog BUT you’ll also build awareness for your own brand and drive traffic from their site to yours.

This doesn’t stop at bloggers. Many magazines are heading online so be sure to include a few professional on topic journalists from industry press in your list to. Once you’ve done a good job for them they’ll be forever receptive to your emails and help you achieve valuable exposure.

Another great way to make friends is to re-tweet your target bloggers/journalists tweets. This is a huge compliment in social media terms.

Other promotional ideas

Promote on your corporate website - Many of the brands we talk to have blogs but don’t publicise the fact they do off their current static website and therefore miss the opportunity to improve stickiness of eyeballs. Add a ‘blog’ tab to your navigation or even a clear button that takes them to it. You may even consider adding a RSS feed box to the home page of your website that automatically adds your latest blog post and keeps your visitors in the know of what’s happening in the business.

Promote everywhere else! – More often than not a company’s blog is far more exciting than the average company ‘brochure site’. For this reason we suggest you promote the blog URL across the following:

• Business Cards
• Email stationery
• Press releases
• Brochures
• Mailers
• Newsletters
• Social Media Channels (Linked in, twitter, Facebook, YouTube etc)
• Voice messaging systems.

BUT BEFORE YOU DO ANY OF THE ABOVE…. make a plan!!!

A simple strategy document that bolts on to your existing marketing strategy is all that is needed. Start small and don’t bite off more than you can chew initially, all the above takes time and energy and by trying to do too much too soon you’ll find yourself becoming disheartened and a ‘busy fool’.
