1. Release news or a revised perspective on your particular topic.

2. Comment on other blogs - it helps build relationships and traffic.

3. Try to make each post timeless. You want your content to generate traffic years ahead.

4. Link out generously to other blogs. It will get you noticed.

5. If you have unique expertise or knowledge, talk about it on your blog.

6. Being controversial can be very effective. However, get your facts straight and don’t be controversial for controversial sake.

7. Link back into your archived posts.

8. Use a keyword tool like Wordtracker to analyse the easiest targeted keywords for your blog.

9. It’s a little overused nowadays but lists, or Top 10’s can be very effective.

10. Write a good mixture of long and short posts.

11. You may see the term “link bait” used now and again. It’s not a term I like, however, it describes the tactic of writing in a style that provokes or encourages fellow bloggers to respond and link back to you.

12. Aim to gain in bound links from blogs or sites within your topic area. These are the most beneficial in bound links for Search Engine Optimisation (SEO) purposes.

13. Rank your favourite blogs in your niche. People tend to love seeing their work up in lights and their thank you for it.

14. Encourage readers to submit your posts to Social bookmarking sites like Digg, Netscape, Reddit and Del.icio.us. If you get enough submissions your traffic will literally go through the roof overnight.

15. Interview people of interest in your field.

16. If you hear a news story breaking on the radio or TV and it’s within your blog topic - post about it immediately. You might be quite surprised by how much traffic this can generate.

17. Find a style of writing that suits you and is popular with your readership.

18. Release a series of posts on a particular topic.

19. Get a posting rhythm and stick to it. Google will thank you for it.

20. Post on weekdays - this is when Internet traffic is at it’s highest.

21. Name your images with descriptive terms broken by hyphens or underscores.

22. See if you can get a guest writing gig on one of the more popular blogs.
